TENNESSEE ASSOCIATION OF FAIRS’
2014  MEMORIAL PRESENTATION

Each year, the Association takes time out to recognize those members, directors, or volunteers that we have lost during the past year. Please take a moment with us now to remember those individuals who will forever be in our hearts and our memories.

1. BLEDSOE COUNTY FAIR:
     a. Mrs. Lorene Hughes Swafford – A volunteer for 55 years and a honorary member for 12 years (picture)
b. Mrs. Bonnie Vann Hixon – A volunteer for 20 years and a honorary member for 15 years (picture)

2. FENTRESS COUNTY FAIR:
     a. Mrs. Jan Brannon Lee – Mrs. Jan’s involvement began over 28 years ago. Her dedication to the fair has been great serving on the board of directors, on various committees throughout the years, and most recently she was greatly involved and dedicated in the Crafts Department until her passing in 2013. b. Charles “Herbie” LaRue – Herbie as he was known by many in the Draft Horse & Mule business was a dedicated chairman of the Draft Horse and Mule Show. He was involved with the fair for over 20 years. (picture)
c. Mr. Obra Rich – Mr. Rich was a great volunteer and worked greatly with the youth of the county for a number of years. (picture)
d. Mr. David Pyle – Dave only had a few years officially serving with the Fair. He served a little over 5 years; and only weeks before his passing, he served for his first time as the ring master of the Fentress County 2013 Draft Horse and Mule Show. (picture)

3. GREENE COUNTY FAIR:
     a. Ann Gaut – Ann served on the Greene County Fair Board for 15 years beginning in November, 1998. (picture)

4. HENRY COUNTY FAIR:
     a. Larry Crawford – Larry served on the Fair Board for 12 years. He served as Vice President and President. He was involved in the Jr. Livestock program and other activities. (picture)
b. Mabron Foust – Mr. Foust served 10 years in various positions and served on the grounds committee.
c. Jack Hays – Jack served 10 years on the Board and was involved in the saddle club activities at the fair.

5. LAUDERDALE COUNTY FAIR:
a. Shirley Worlds – Served as an honorary member for 5 years
b. Ruth Cohill – Served as a fair board member and volunteer for 6 years (picture)

6. LINCOLN COUNTY FAIR:
a. Harold Armstrong – Mr. Armstrong was 77 years old and served on the Lincoln County Fair Board for 20-30 years. He passed away on Christmas day.

7. MORGAN COUNTY FAIR:
a. Mr. Elmer Howard – Mr. Howard was 95 years old, and up until 5 years ago when his health began to fail, he was an active part of the Association. He served on the Morgan County Board and as a member and director for 53 years. Elmer was also famous for his craft in the production of moonshine in this area and will be greatly missed.

8. PUTNAM COUNTY FAIR:
a. Andelene Shanks – Andelene was involved with the fair for approximately 40 years. She was a board member and very involved with the mountain dancing and clogging competitions. (picture)
b. Dennis Tennant – Dennis served on the board for three terms. He served as President and Vice President several times. He was involved in several improvement projects on the fairgrounds. (picture)

9. RHEA COUNTY FAIR:
a. Milton Kyle – Mr. Kyle was a dedicated volunteer with the Rhea County Fair for 5 years.

10. ROBERTSON COUNTY:
a. Gus Elliott – Mr. Elliott served over 50 years as a loyal and dedicated Fair Board member (picture)

11. SEQUATCHIE COUNTY FAIR:
a. Gordon Hickey – Gordon Hickey served 12 years with the Sequatchie County Fair Board. He was the co-chairman of the Building and Grounds committee. (picture)

12. SMITH COUNTY FAIR:
a. Benny Watts – Benny was 62 years old when he passed away on December 11th. He had only been a volunteer for 16 months but was a great asset. He worked as our electrician, plumber, and other things; he was at the fair every night this year to make sure there were no problems. He will be greatly missed. (picture)

13. SUMNER COUNTY FAIR:
a. Roy Womack – Roy “Link” Womack was a past President of the Tennessee Fair Association, President of the Sumner County Fair, and on the board of directors for over 40 years for the Sumner County Fair. Mr. Womack was 83 years old. (picture)

14. WARREN COUNTY FAIR:
a. Earlene Doak – Earlene Doak began serving on the Fairest of the Fair committee for Warren County in 1957. (picture)
b. Kevin E. Lawrence – Kevin began volunteering for the Warren County Fair in the 1980’s. He served as President of the Warren County Fair from 2008-2013. Kevin served as the President of the Tennessee Association of Fairs in 2006. He continued to volunteer with the TAF in various capacities, especially the Registration desk in the last several years. 15. WEST TN STATE FAIR:
a. Harold Watson – Harold Watson served on the West Tennessee State Fair from 1976-2011.

16. WILLIAMSON COUNTY FAIR:
a. Donald Scott “Scotty” Richardson– “Scotty” was born in 1962. He started out 9 years ago as a volunteer, and he became a board member in 2012. (picture)

17. WILSON COUNTY FAIR:
a. Wanda Gates – Wanda served on the Wilson County Fair Board for 11 years
b. Joe Perry – Mr. Perry is the Retired Director of James E. Ward Agricultural Center and Wilson County Fairgrounds for 11 years. (picture)
