Tennessee Association of Fairs’ 2015 Memorial Presentation
Each year, the Association takes time out to recognize those members, directors, or volunteers that we have lost during the past year. Please take a moment with us now to remember those individuals who will forever be in our hearts and our memories.
Cheatham County Fair: Cheatham County Fair lost Johnny Davis. He served on the board for over 15 years. He enjoyed working on the Board & attending the TAF Convention every year. He served as President and was over the maintenance and ground work for the fairgrounds.
Cocke County Fair: Cocke County Fair lost Billy Hugh Sparks in 2014. He was an excellent supporter of the Fair for 50 years. He served as director and was chairman of several different areas over the years. Mr. Sparks’ farm is one of Cocke County’s Century Farms. (NO PICTURE AVAILABLE)
Jack Wisecarver had been with the Cocke County Fair for 60 years. He served as chairman over beef cattle, dairy cattle, and most recently helping his wife with the canning department. Jack was a current director, and his farm was also a Century Farm. (NO PICTURE AVAILABLE)
Dyer County Fair: Dyer County Fair lost Tommy Reed this year. He served as Fair Board President in 1984 and was on the Executive Board until the time of his death in April, 2014. The Dyer County Fair is family oriented; his wife, his daughter and two grandsons are all members of the Dyer County fair board.
Meigs County Fair: Meigs County Fair lost their Treasurer of 30 years, Doris Layman. Ms. Layman served from 1980 – 2008. She passed away on November 5, 2014. (Ms. Layman is on the right of the picture.)
Overton County Fair: The Overton County Agricultural Fair lost Ronda Ogletree Parker. Ronda served on the Board from May, 2011 – August, 2014. She began volunteering in the Antiques department in July, 2010.
Tennessee State Fair Association: The Tennessee State Fair lost Judith Lynne Nickles “Judy” Basse. Judy served as the Fair Manager from 1987 – 1991. Mrs. Basse also served as the Executive Secretary for the Tennessee Association of Fair from 1980 – 1999.
Warren County Fair: The Warren County A&I Fair lost several volunteers this year:
- Royce Davenport – a parking volunteer for 10 years
- Nolan Evans – a volunteer for 15 years (NO PHOTO AVAILABLE)
- James Thomison – a volunteer for 15 years
- Bobby Turner – a Board Member/Walking Horse Show Volunteer for 15 years (NO PHOTO AVAILABLE)
- Julia Wade – a volunteer in the Floral Department for 30 years
White County Agricultural Fair: White County Fair lost Roy Sewell in 2014. Mr. Sewell served as the Superintendent of the Mule Show from 1984 – 2014, 34 years.
Wilson County Fair: The Wilson County Fair lost six members in 2014. They were:
- Eric Ashworth – served since 2002
- Thersa Franklin – served since 2008
- Jim Gannaway – served since 1980
- Gilbert Graves – served since 1977
- HB McDonald – served since 2001
- Tomlinson – served since 2006
